È uno dei castelli più belli che abbia mai visto. Abbiamo prenotato la visita e la guida è stata bravissima, tutto chiaro e comprensibile. Il parco è meraviglioso con dei colori e un panorama mozzafiato.

This place is a beautiful area to walk your dogs or kids etc..and has picnic area for the summer days too. The castle itself is only open certain days but the grounds are open longer hours/days. It also has a Mimi's cake restaurant in there and they do pupcakes!! Lovely garden to walk in as well, and fab for taking your dog round... although busy!

Beautiful park with a view on the bay. Interesting Japanese garden. Lots of benches, there is a place to rest and relax. Many squirrels around. There is a parking for visitors, about 20 parking lots. Place for BBQ is available

Spent a lovely Sunday making Christmas wreaths at Lauriston. Very enjoyable. Have previously done crochet workshops there too. Recommend checking out their range of workshops.

Cranberry wreath making workshop last Sunday was fantastic. Such good value; coffee, cakes, an informative demonstration and all the materials you could possibly want. All the greenery was sourced from the castle grounds. Although I’m not very ‘crafty’ I left with 2 beautiful Christmas wreaths. Highly recommend. Will be booking for next year.

Had such a lovely time at the wreath-making workshop. So many decorations supplied along with coffee, tea and snacks.
A beautiful place to visit, with a lovely cafe too.

Visited this place with my wife and daughter on Saturday 30/11/24. Found a place in the very small car park to park our car and walked to the castle.
We had booked the guided tour of the castle for 1.30pm, so as we had arrived early we decided to have a wander round the gardens. What a disappointment they were!. Very neglected and overgrown. There was some work ongoing to dredge the pond, though obviously no workers on a Saturday, just their excavators lying around and the silt that had been dug out dumped on the pathway for people to walk through!. We avoided this because of the smell. Also because the car park was free it seemed like all the dog walkers in Edinburgh came here to walk their dogs, the majority of which were allowed to roam free.
We then went to the house and along with other people were met by Neve, the tour guide. She was excellent, telling us about the history of the house and giving us an insight on how it was used by the various owners over the years. I don't think I've met a more enthusiastic guide!.
After the tour was finished we wanted to go into the little cafe for coffee and cake but discovered there was only a serving counter and if you wanted to sit, it would be outside on the few tables they had. In November, no thanks.
Edinburgh council, who run this place, could take some inspiration from privately owned castles and stately homes in the Lake District. They have managed car parks, some of which you need to pay a small fee, no dogs allowed within the castle grounds, immaculate gardens and always a decent cafe for lunches or snacks.
I only gave three stars because of Neve's professionalism and friendliness otherwise it would have been one star.

What a magical place! A place for young and old, for those who enjoy the calm and peaceful life on a weekend. There is a small coffee as well - highly recommended. Parking space is available at the beginnging. Also a good possibility to take a walk with the dog through the gardens and a long the sea.

Personalmente, ho trovato questo castello più suggestivo di tutti. Facile da arrivarci con bus e pochi minuti di passeggiata. Si affaccia sul mare. Bellissimo

Lovely park/walking grounds used a lot by locals. My personal favourite is the Japanese garden.
Entrance to the house during limited hours and ticketed, needs to be purchased via Edinburgh museums website.
Parking is free, but limited during busier hours.
Mimi's cafe on the premises is open during the day.
Public toilets free of charge

Le parc est très beau je le recommande mais nous avons été mal accueilli par les vendeuses de la boutique sur place . Un manque de respect qui gâche l'expérience.
